If the killers did their deed BECAUSE they felt Islam was being maligned and Muslims targeted...wouldn't that be different than a random person who attends church killing someone NOT because they felt they were defending Christianity BUT for some other reason.

For instance, if someone says they were Muslim, but they killed another person for (FILL IN THE BLANK) but not in an announced defense of Islam. Isn't that different?

The same for a Christian. If a guy says he is a Christian AND he's killing people because he feels compelled to defend his faith, isn't that different from a random person who has attended church killing someone.

So...I don't think its a valid point.

Man kills man over woman. Totally unnecessary to divulge his professed faith. Man kills man (in defense of his religion), yeah, I want to know the religion. Be he Christian, Muslim, or Martian.
