And then, think back to all the many gun goobers you may have dealt with.

It always struck me that absent their guns, these people are terribly afraid of just about everything. There is no situation that, to them, does not warrant being armed and dangerous. And htey will call you a fool for not agreeing, because don't you know how dangerous the world is, and only an idiot would face it without overwhelming firepower.

In other words, they're mostly people without courage, trying to make up that deficit with threat displays.
