102. Grocer's unions
Wed May 8, 2013, 08:30 PM
May 2013

What you fail to understand is that with most Grocer's unions, (read UFCW), the union has divided the staff by creating ever worsening levels of tiers among employees.

My wife worked at Kroger for 25 years and was a member of UFCW for all of that time....She saw EVERY SINGLE CONTRACT made worse with union concessions until new employees, (like the person that you are speaking of), found it less profitable to join UFCW than to NOT join it.

Every tier was worse than the prior tier until it was finally better to just not join the union and took what the company offered and you would end up $63 a month ahead.

She finally quit the union in the last year she was there....It was political bullshit between the upper management and old hand employees, (who were always on the bargaining committee).

Never dismiss out of hand what you don't understand.
