(53,661 posts)There'd been all that teabagger and CT propaganda about how churches would be punished for not performing vows. Also there were provisions due to age of the married couples being an issue for some who would get lower SS benefits as couples. Also that civil unions, which were already part of the state law, would in time be recognized as marriage and those people would not have to payagain. Those were the changes that made it a winner.
I wouldn't say WA was lacking as a progressive state, but we have been targeted by the GOP most viciously since we have to elect Democratic governors for years. There were a number of outrageous stunts committed by Bush to punish WA when he got into office. Since the baggers got going in 2010, they have been more intense and the dirty tricks have multiplied on all levels.
A big amount of unaccountable money from out of state is being used to defeat Democrats and our initiatives the media has been bought out by the right. The Libertarians fight against all the progressive things, most of I've met are disaffected Paulbots. They're quite aggressive. We are going to have some problems.
