2. i think the only 501(c)(4)s to which contributions are deductible are volunteer fire departments.

at issue is whether or not the organization itself has to pay taxes, which, if they are a legit 501(c)(4), they generally do not.

of course, such organization shouldn't really have profits of any consequence anyway.
