I was new to California when all this was taking place, so I wasn't familiar with all the players. I didn't even know who Issa was at the time. There is a certain similarity between the two though. I think they both sought public office to give themselves a certain aura of respectability. For Arnold, evidently marrying a Kennedy just wasn't quite enough. Issa came from humble beginnings, was a high school drop out, and a small time crook, so I imagine he spent a good chunk of his life running from his past. He kind of reminds me of Don Draper in Mad Men, only more ruthless and less attractive.
I wonder if Issa thought that the governorship was a stepping stone to the White House. He certainly has an ego big enough for it.
