I have been seeing the weirdest commercials about my "entitlements" lately [View all]

I am in Washington state. One commercial keeps telling me I am going to live a lot longer and need to keep working as lon g as possible bnecause my retirement benefits will run out if I don't. Obviously meant to make me feel the cold reality of catfood and newspaper lining my shoes in my old age.

The other commercial is even sicker. It gives me a whole other feeling, rather Orwellian:

They have a black woman with a broken arm bragging that her employer (who is standing behind her patting her on the back) was able to let her keep working in spite of her injury. No need to pay out benefits, she already benefits by coming to work with her arm in a sling. What the hell? I see that commercial and my mouth drops open.

They have taken this shell game to the public everywhere, I guess. Trying to convince us that benefits don't help people. That needy means greedy.

Other states getting rid of unemployment compensation altogether!

That there is even anything under any of the shells. Sleight of hand! Poof. All we work for is gone.
