I have a zero deductible on my comprehensive coverage, which costs very little compared to a $500 deductible. Comprehensive claims do not cause your premiums to increase, so there's no real benefit to bypassing smaller claims and fixing it out of your own pocket. I'd rather have a high deductible on collision and a lower one, or zero on comprehensive, but it all depends on your situation.
