Haven't read this in too long.
I gave away my volume of Hughes many years ago to a young black kid - a junior high student who had never heard of Hughes. We chatted when he came to my place with his dad who was doing some tree work. He told me his goal in school was an education that would enable him to fix the world. 
So I gave him my favorite book of poems and essays.
I hope he is a DUer. Hi, James. I never forgot you.
