In reply to the discussion: The Tornado on TV right now is a monster. My prayers to the people of the mid-west. [View all]Grammy23
(6,123 posts)17. We had a much less dangerous tornado in our town a year or so ago.....
the local news went on live, minute by minute with radar showing where the tornado was headed. It was night time so seeing it would have been difficult. The wall to wall coverage for a local community is going to save lives since they can inform people moment by moment so they know what's going on and where.
Coincidentally, I just read stories today about a tornado that struck Vicksburg, MS in 1953. They had little warning so a lot of people died because they were just going about their business, shopping, etc. It hit late in the afternoon in Dec. and no one seemed to be aware that it was coming. Devastated the town. Killed 38 people and injured many more. Thank goodness things have improved for predicting storms and where they are going so at least people have a chance to either take shelter or move away from the storm's path.
