(114,627 posts)5. Star Trek did this one in their first series
and disposed of the whole thing within an hour. Dragging it out over 2 hours of gratuitous violence seems a bit much.
The problem with the premise is that most of us don't want to go out and kill our neighbors and set the business district ablaze, with or without laws against such things. The people who do want to do such things aren't confining it to one night a year.
It's a silly premise and likely an overlong movie that will appeal mostly to angry young people who blame anyone older than they are in general for the sick state of our economy.
Now if the purge targeted the rich side of town and the banks instead of each other in their own neighborhoods, they might have something.
