Autoimmune diseases run in my mom's family.

I grew up in a filthy house. My mother was a hoarder and had her junk take up an entire bedroom. I was unable to have my own room because of this, and had to share a room with my sister. No central air, inadequate window units, horrible heat and humidity, and a very large collie dog (rough collie) and I had a runny nose my entire childhood.

Dog looked approximately like this--they were bred with Russian wolfhounds at the turn of the 20th century:


Nobody noticed except to yell at me to go blow my nose in the bathroom at school.

I still have allergic asthma and inhalant allergies like dog hair and cat hair. I also have some pretty serious food allergies--nightshade family(tomatoes), shellfish, bell peppers. Your hypothesis does not work in my case.
