Three were in circumstances known to prevent their own risk of suffocation - or SIDS (face down under covers, on the back seat of a car, and on a sofa)
The bedding of the other two are unknown (a toddler in a camper - no description of the bedding, and a mother dog who miscarried and apparently saw the infant as a substitute pup - no information about bedding)
Three reported finding the dog with the child (the 1935, 1948, and 1998 ones), and no follow-up after autopsy was available.
Three reported the cause of death using words like "suspected" or "apparently," and the other two - 1935 and 1948 spoke with certainty - but also involved other suffocation risks (and were before much refined knowledge of SIDS.
