In reply to the discussion: Is there anyone on DU that is paid by the Democratic Party or the White House...? [View all]Skip Intro
(19,768 posts)Back during the 03/04 primaries there was a quite noticeable influx of Kerry supporters (many of whom tore into Dean supporters, if I remember correctly).
During the 07/08 primaries there was a quite noticeable influx of Obama supporters, many of whom went after Hillary supporters, and I do remember that correctly.
Seems clear to me that at crucial times, when the swaying of Democrats online is considered good strategy by the party or campaign powers that be, DU is among sites targeted for such attempted swaying. And to persuade the most tenacious to undertake and sustain such effort, it isn't hard to suspect some financial compensation for services rendered.
So, for me, it is almost certain that some people are paid to be online and to spread talking points in an effort to either promote a particular candidate or issue, or to spin away negative and possibly harmful news for those already in power. I would be shocked if such online efforts/campaigns don't exist.
Having said all that, there are one or two here, with substantial post counts (not sure about newer members) who have struck me for some time as being tireless in their particular crusades. I can only conclude that these are compensated for their perpetual cheer-leader-like/bash-all-who-question-or-criticize efforts to sway opinion.
