I think that heritage means "traditions", not "genes".

I think that preserving the spirit and a good chunk of the letter of traditions one claims a connection to is what "keeping one's heritage pure" means (as much as it means anything - it's a fairly nebulous phrase, and not one I would ever use myself).

I don't think preventing people of other races taking part in a tradition is keeping the tradition itself pure, it's just keeping the *people who practice them* "pure" - i.e. monochromatic. And that's not the same thing at all, and clearly is racist.
