(529 posts)It seems like *some* of them like to get all macho and threatening when they pull a woman over, but if you call them to get help dealing with a man who's become violent, it's a whole different story. A few years ago a male relative had a huge mental health crisis, started mixing his bi-polar meds with alcohol, flew off the handle and tried to burn a couple of houses down. Now you'd think after all that the cops would have been there in a heart beat, but you'd be wrong. It took them over two hours and the first time they came he wasn't arrested. It took almost all night and several other ppl to convince the cops that he really was a danger to everyone, including himself. After that most of my family had to convince a judge to commit him to a hospital, but that didn't even last for a week. I just feel like the cops (and the justice system at large) around here don't want to deal with the real problems, or with ppl who could hurt them, they just want to throw their weight around and have everyone fear them. Sometimes they seem more like bullies than heros.
