16. why would businesses want a level playing field?

Blackburn said that it was "...up to companies to make sure there is a level playing field and that women are not shortchanged as they try to get on that latter to success.


But why would they (business) do that?

Oh some might. However, plenty won't since what incentive is there for them to do that?

I mean, if the whole point of you is to make money, why wouldn't you want workers you could pay less for doing the same job? Yes it unfair to the worker but that unfairness benefits your bottom line. (at least in the short term)
Yet when I bring this up to free market conservatives I get either stony silence or some off hand remark about the "free market"

Things like this makes me feel conservative economics is more religion then anything else.
