The economy is still not patched up quite yet (from their abuse)

They enjoy the role of the thorn in the side.

If they had the WH, they'd have to come up with something to do, as opposed to oppose. War is always an option with the GOP because it focuses the attention away from domestic problems, but the population may not have an appetite for another one so soon.

As long as they retain the House, and have a posse of Blue Dog Dems to work with in the Senate they can continue their work of stifling progress all the while blaming the lack of progress on the WH. They know a Lame Duck with no House or Senate won't do too much ~~damage~~ improvement anyways.

I think they've given up on it awhile ago. They are saving their big dogs until 2014 when they have a chance with fresh Dem meat to go against. Christie, Jeb Bush, .....
