In reply to the discussion: 'Game of Thrones' Sparks Intense Reactions [View all]Yavin4
(37,182 posts)71. in 70s movies, it was common for the hero/protagonist to die.
Easy Rider, Klute, Chinatown, Looking for Mr. Goodbar, etc.
In the 80s, movies were expected to always have an "up" ending. The heroic protagonist had to win, and the bad guys had to lose. This fits into the Reagan mythology where bad/good guys are clearly identified, and the good guys had to win.
Ever since, movies and TV have been dumbed down. I was positive that most people could not handle last night's episode.

The author's name is George RR Martin. He's 64, not exactly teetering over an open grave.

People still watch these things on TV? Rooting for this guy or that guy to win?

I called my friend last night at the end to ask what she thought. She taped it and hadn't seen it.

Aside from Sean Bean's performance, I've been thoroughly underwhelmed by it.

There's a wonderful series of 14 some odd-movies called Sharpe's Rifles that Bean stars in

Right. So I'd never seen the show before last night. I tuned in for the first time with no clue.

I disagree.. Four was slow, but Five is really an excellent book, imo!
