made a working muzzle loader. It was of course a smooth bore and not as accurate as a rifle but still could hit a paper plate a 25 yards no problem.

The reason I mention this is because my friend was 16 years old at the time he made this rifle and had no adult assist. He used a recycled wood stock and the steering column from a VW bus for the barrel. The rear sight was recycled and he cast his own round balls. Of course he had access to a lathe and milling machine and the ability to use them. But he was 16 at the time, this was the late 1970s time frame.

Moral of the story, we will never get rid of guns or the means to fire them.
