(5,662 posts)To do the Red Wedding justice, it really should have been a whole episode just of that (like Blackwater in Season 2). But if they hadn't cut to other things, non-book watchers would have been tipped off that something was happening (i.e. why are they spending a whole hour establishing who is sitting where, etc.) I'm just hoping at the beginning of the next episode we get Greatjon Umber taking out some Freys.
The bits I didn't like were Grey Wind killed in the stables instead of killing a bunch of Freys (obviously for budgetary reasons) and the silly rubber eagle attack on Jon.
The downside of cutting the wedding with other stuff is all of the great moments in other scenes that are drowned out by the Red Wedding awfulness. Sam's heart grows three sizes when Gilly calls him a wizard, Jorah's soul is crushed when Dany asks about Daario, Jon and Ygritte face the inevitable, Bran starts to realise what he's capable of.
And in the books I thought it was pretty clear there is no Little Embryo Stark because Tywin Lannister intimidates the Westerlings into sneaking abortificants into their daughter's tea. Possibly it didn't work and she is pregnant but nobody knows about it if she is.
