In reply to the discussion: Why Do We Throw Prostitutes in Prison? [View all]jeff47
(26,549 posts)100. You went through a very long post to continue to ignore current reality.
In fact most proposals to legalize prostitution keep running across the same problems that lead to prostitution being illegal. How to regulate it and keep it out of certain neighborhoods?
There's this state called "Nevada". It actually exists. And it's really not hard for them to regulate legal prostitution. Where Nevada has problems is where the state law makes prostitution illegal.
LA, which has legal marijuana, has had pressure to close down most if not all of the cannabis stores.
Except LA does not have legal marijuana. Federal law still applies. That's where the pressure comes from.
The problem is NO ONE WANTS IT IS THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD and thus its mostly exists in poorer neighborhoods
In virtually any big-name hotel in the country, there are prostitutes working.
As for zoning, it's really not that hard at all. There's plenty of industrial zones in the country which would happily take the business. You don't have to put the brothels in residential areas.

prostitution happens anyway, it would be better for public health if it was regulated and legal.

It would also be easier to catch those exploiting minors in to this business too...

Public health would be served by regulating the trade, not criminalizing it.

Generally it is a great way to generate cash revenue to supplement police income.

It is completely insane to make it a crime to get paid for doing what it is legal to do for free...
