It's a reference to converts in Rome who reverted back to their polytheistic roots -- and all those kick-ass Roman orgies that came along with it. Unnatural sexual desires (which covers a lot of ground up to and including the old Zeta-Jones) were only part of the object of God's fury.
Funny how these SA people ignored the laundry list of sins that the Apostle Paul enumerates ("unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful"
and focused on homosexuality.
