(32,324 posts)Highlight is ambiguous. And what I take from it is different than your reading of the paragraph's meaning.
When I read this: "We cant have a serious debate about how much surveillance of Americans communications should be permitted without ending secret law " - what I take from that is that we need to end secret law.
In fact that was the entire point of Snowden coming forward. As long as no one could pursue the matter of surveillance in court, as the whole secrecy of the surveillance meant that an individual who thought they were a target of the surveillance couldn't prove it, and so that individual had no standing, and the court would throw the entire case out, saying "there is no standing for you to pursue this.. But once Snowden came forward, many of us as individuals now could challenge this in court.
