Frothy was already "surging" before the birth control issue came about, and the President had minimal, if any influence on that. It's obvious the "base" doesn't want Mitt as their candidate. And, Santorum is unelectable, thanks, in part, to his batshit crazy comments over this controversy. I think the announcement was used to further drive a wedge between him and the Mittster. Even if Mitt does pull off the nomination, his response to this little episode has just made him look like an even bigger turd.

The announcement also served to further illustrate just how extreme and out-of-touch the GOP is. You have Boehner, Steve King and others making idiotic statements about wanting to take away contraceptive coverage altogether--contrary to wishes of the majority of Americans. The more they kow-tow to their lunatic base, the more people will have their eyes opened.
