16. Rape is never funny, but some sick people think it's "justice".

There is a strong class recognition in people who need to feel better about themselves. This society creates "classes" of people (see the hysteria over the sexual predator list). These classes of individuals may be mistreated and denigrated (like gays as well) to allow other people who feel powerless in their lives to look down on someone. A ego boost for those with low egos.

You saw the same thing in the civil war, where poor farmers violently defended slavery, even though they had no hope of owning a slave. There was someone lower than them on the social totem pole.

This unfortunately leads to violence against those who are being dehumanized. It seems to be something in human nature, and is best countered by education.
