72. It could be an "inside baseball" swipe at his wife.

His wife used to be a speechwriter for Condileeza Rice when she was at State, and she also had some job (don't recall what) in the Bush administration. She is still hooked into that world and that group of people. They live on the east coast, and the tweet might be trying to coyly suggest a dalliance or something. Whatever, and regardless of one's feelings about the guy--even from the diehard McChrystal fans--that kind of commentary is just not appropriate.

It could also be an attempt to try to insert themselves into the story. There's just no way of knowing, at least not yet. The lawyer needs to come forward and confirm the contact and perhaps characterize it (was it a request for legal assistance, or...was it a reporter asking a question?).

All the remark did was twist people's emotions even further.

His wife had to beat down some disrespect from the NYT before her husband's body even stopped smoking.
