(3,247 posts)Y'all started a secession, both your neighbors to the north voted against following suit, (my dad's people's county voted 81% NO) things got out of control and it happened anyhow, then we died -- both military and civilians-- in greater proportion than the Deep South warmongers or anyone up north.
My sister in Maryland does not want to live in a different hostile country from her brother in Virginia. I have a brother in Massachusetts, a sister in Montana and cousins from Canada to Mexico and coast to coast. I suspect all of us would be willing to fight and die to preserve the Union, just as our southern Unionist ancestors were.
But no matter what crazy shit gets flung here by extremists from the Deep South or Pacific Northwest or California or New England saying "let's tear the country apart again and make sure you border states suckers die in vast numbers again"-- the center of power is on the Potomac and the memories of four years of death and destruction are not forgotten.
It will not happen, but reckless idiot extremists wishing it on us still pours salt in a wound that will never completely close.
