(3,247 posts)My family is biracial, I'm a lifelong leftie, my main volunteer activity is as a board member of an organization for mixed-race people, so how could I possibly be racially biased? (Which isn't the same thing as "being a racist" but is related.) So I took various implicit bias tests from this website at Harvard.
I was AGHAST to learn that white=good, black=bad, and white and black= Americans but Native American= foreigners had gotten embedded in my psyche from early childhood and that shit was still in there regardless of the purity of my conscious thoughts.
Even more creepy was discovering via reading on the subject that this poison seeps into the brains of black people just as much as whites. To the extent that there is such a thing as racial bias among black people, it's more likely to be self-hatred based on lifelong exposure to subliminal anti-black propaganda than anything anti-white. Since all three of my nieces are biracial, the horror of this realization hit very close to home.
