13. My father always had a treat and a pat on the head for the next door neighbors' dog

as he left for work every morning.

On the morning Pop died, the dog sat pretty much on the property line, watching first; the paramedics and firemen, and then friends and family who stopped by to offer support.

He spent about five hours there, just sitting. The dog disappeared that afternoon, and was found a few days later...lying dead in a field of tall grass behind our house.

I believe it was more than a coincidence. I think he was missing his human buddy.
