(3,982 posts)This is one place where a two party system struggles. Thre are multiple components of liberal views. A spectrum.
In addition, this divide is less of a disagreement in values on what services the government should provide, but due to the growing "trust divide" with our government.
I think we all agree that our government is not doing everything well these days, and while it does many things well and with the people in mind, there is a genuine problem with responsiveness, transparency, and accountability.
Most Totalitarian governments have social programs. Many Democrats consider good government not just a factor of it's social priorities, but of it's protection of civil liberties as well.
You do a disservice and add a certain ignorance to the discussion by voicing the idea that your fellow Democrats are libertarians. That is simply not the case.
