I am always shocked at the number of people who are driving uninsured. And they are a nightmare for all of us. Not to mention a nightmare for the uninsured driver who will have no coverage for the damage to his car or for his medical bills (another instance where we will probably be paying more for insurance to cover what he will not be able to pay).

I don't know how anyone has a newer model car and has no insurance. Banks require it if you finance, and leases require it if you lease. The only way around it is to buy a new car with cash, and who in their right mind would have the money to pay cash for a new car and not insure it.

You will have to update us on what the results of this accident are, but I have been in the same position, and it cost me a lot of money just because the asshole who hit me didn't have insurance. If he were insured, you would have no out of pocket expenses, but you will now have to pay your deductible. I also had to pay part of the rental cost, since my insurance did not cover enough to rent a car from any rental agency.

And you are right. We pay additional insurance costs just to cover the uninsured.
