(12,678 posts)Why? Because someone ELSE is buying it for him. He wanted it, we couldn't afford it, one of our dear friends heard about that, and is buying him his dream present out of sheer, unbelievable kindness and generosity. But if she walked into my home without knowing the circumstances, she would assume that we were frauds who wasted taxpayer dollars in order to buy expensive toys.
Just because you see a welfare recipient with expensive gadgets or nice clothes, does not mean that THEY actually bought those things. Believe it or not, there are people out there who occasionally give gifts--even expensive ones--to poor people who could not otherwise afford them. With the sole exception of our computer, which was purchased at Wal-Mart for $400 we took out of our student aid, every other "gadget" that we possess is something that someone else bought for our son. We are fortunate enough to have some generous friends who care about our son and want him to have as normal a childhood as possible considering our circumstances. I am deeply grateful for that, believe me. Most poor people don't have anyone in their lives who is capable of doing such things for them.
I just wish people would give others the benefit of the doubt instead of constantly assuming the worst.
