"On April 12, 1776, the colony became the first to instruct its delegates to the Continental Congress to vote for independence from the British crown, through the Halifax Resolves passed by the North Carolina Provincial Congress. The dates of both of these events are memorialized on the state flag and state seal."
It used to be the motto on license plates "First in Freedom" because of the Halifax Resolves. But for some stupid reason they changed it to "first in flight" because two yankees from Ohio came to the Outer Banks because the wind blows 60 MPH all the time there.... and there're no trees. We weren't "1st in flight". Folks had been flying around in balloons for quite a while before the Wright Brothers. 'First in Motorized FlighT" doesn't sound so good and is too long to get on the plate..... Why they just didn't leave it with an act WE actually did here and is true I'll never know.
I love my state. But every time we get ready to "step up to the plate" and rise out of the ol' timey Southern horse shit (and we have several times), someone ruins it.
