I dunno -- wouldn't a nice bouquet of flowers have sufficed to get her attention? But then, lovesick people often do lots of crazy things.

Or maybe it's a code. Sort of like "The woods are lovely, dark, and deep..." that was used in the Charles Bronson movie "Telefon," signalling him that it's time to dump LSD in the Washington D.C. water supply. Oh, sorry. Wrong movie, and it's too late for that, anyway.
