8. Actually, no, the word "metadata" has a very specific meaning.

It is not meant to confuse, it adds precision vs. just saying "data". "Data" could include content. "Metadata" clearly does not.

A simple way to define "metadata" is that it is "data about data".

It's a widely used term in information science. No one just made it up just to confuse YOU.
