(5,465 posts)about it here, wrote letters, left commentary on other sites, talked about it in our communities, with family, friends, and organizations we belong to (in my case my local County Democratic Party). If you do a DU search for "Sensata", you'll see that we did. We were outraged about what has happened to your community, and we did our individual best to try and stop the outsourcing of America by electing President Obama.
I can understand your disillusion and hurt and anger. I think everyone on DU empathizes with you and your community. And I wish that you were right about DU being for activists, but for the most part, it's not.
We opened a forum for Activism some years back... can't recall exactly when, I think perhaps 2005 (don't hold me to it), and a few calls to action aside (letter writing, local protests, some meet-ups), the forum failed. Those of us who participated in the forum would get a DU automated mail calling for action... and then it all stopped.
There is far more discussion (or what passes for discussion, don't get me started) in GD and in Politics 2013) then there is in the group (community and single issue forums), and one probably needs to find more issue specific discussion there, which is unfortunate since GD has the most exposure.
Anyway, fwiw, I don't believe that most members of DU feel about outsourcing and the devastation to your town as you may think.... I think that the issues that should matter most - like your and yours and others in similar situation - I think they get buried as a result of emotionally driven singular issues and political propaganda which might be better suited on DU in other forums than GD.
I wish I could help you. Tell me how and I'll do my best. I *get* your anger and you are entitled to every ounce of it. I am angry too, and I wish I could do something to help.
