(12,233 posts)son to a Game Stop or something like that. Its mostly ALL used games. Normally, you can find pre-used games for $5.00- $10.00. If the purchase is absolutely horrible quality, you can return it for a different choice or money back within a certain amt of time... AND if there are games your son gets that he doesn't like or that he outgrows, he can take back his used games and sell them back to the store or use the used games to bring down the price on new purchases. That's what my husband does for any birthday, christmas, or occasion when our son has saved up enough spare change to buy himself a couple of games... No new one's for us. He's 7. He can wait for any of the newest "got to have's" to make their way to one of the used stores. I think the only people who actually buy him new games are relatives. Just a little tip to make the Xbox a bit more rewarding.
Also, I'm not so sure about Xbox capabilities, but with the Play Station 3 and the Wii that we have in the home, they are WiFi capable. I'm not sure if you have WiFi or not, but accessing the internet with the machine is kinda neat.. and makes a cheap way of accessing "cable shows"... You can buy a cheap monthly package with netflix and be able to watch tv shows, movies.. etc. My sister in law does this through her sons Wii... They do NOT have cable in their home except to provide the internet. So, for like $8.00 a month, they can access lots of tv shows and movies and can purchase new movies to watch for cheaper than blockbuster if they choose. She took out cable after she got divorced and was living as a single mom... She has since married and now has 3 children and a husband again. Its been a good 4 yrs now since she's had cable box for tv shows. It was a huge cost savings for their family.
I would love to try and convince my hubby that this would be a great way to cut out on an expense every month. I know with our cable internet provider, they have an AP that allows live viewing of the cable channels. I really believe that the cable box is going to be gone and that we will all be watching what we want to thru the internet on our time when we want to. Between the new launch of YouTube tv shows and TV shows that one can access online thru the channel directly or many times thru HuLu... People's lives are crazy and hectic. People don't operate on the normal schedule of a man at work from 9am - 5pm, with Ma as the stay at home mom, and the tv shows coming on during the evening for the family to watch and then the kids to bed and adult shows after 10pm... That whole schedule doesn't fit. Most people have to DVR or catch up on episodes on one's own time on their iPad or Lap Top or even their mini smart phones.
AND really, there is no reason at all to apologize for your son having an electronic toy like most children in America. There are a lot of people who line up (now on Thanksgiving night) to buy cheap electronic items for their family members because those discounts will make the item affordable. When 48% of all Americans can be classified now as living in poverty or very close to poverty and 57% of all children are living in those impoverished or close to poverty households, it is going to be more common to see families utilizing Food Stamps, WIC, and TANF if they can. I would say that the poverty threshold for a family of 4 is much too low. Its unrealistic to think that $22,000 for a family of 4 is the number that makes one poor or not. Where can a family even live with an income like that? And the cost of food is increasing dramatically.
I would say that the amount of money that we give to families needs to actually increase along with the poverty income threshold and/ or the amount in which a family would qualify for assistance... or a minimum wage that pays actual living costs, medicare for all, tax increases on the greedy wealthy, "free" daycare for all children like free school, an increase in mandatory work pay/ coupled with a decrease in the amt of hours that is considered a full time work week. Families need time to spend with one another, mandatory 2 wk paid for vacation, mandatory 2 wk pd sick leave (and not something that can be used as a day off to be fair.. worker should prove that a child, parent, or self was ill OR that an actual funeral took place for a family member.. if we had Medicare for All, then there would be no worry about seeing a Dr when they really are sick and getting a worker sign off note.) And with companies forced to pay a minimum wage that is a living wage, coupled with the "work week" being like 30hrs, they would be forced to hire new persons to be able to function... Theoretically, if every worker had enough money to afford their lives, then the company's business should increase (if its something the market wants), due to demand of that product or whatever one is trying to sell.
In any society, there are going to be dishonest people who will scam any system or figure out the best ways to screw other people or get freebie items in dishonest ways. The only difference in those so-called "Welfare Queens" gaming the system and the wealthy elite/ pols scamming other's out of money or rigging the system, is the luck of the draw on their parents and connections and the level of wealth they steal... The Banksters, CEO's, Board of Directors, Wall St, politicians steal and collude on a bigger level and they can influence the law to protect their actions from equalling jail time in order to steal tax payer money, people's life's savings, pensions, small towns, charities.... The Welfare Queens are in Walmart using a pre-determined amount of money that the govt allows because of their overall income, which may just be nothing.
Reality is little miss Walmart worker is jealous because she's working, make shit for income, and seeing people get free stuff. Reality is Miss Little Walmart Worker Republican used the job as a part-time, extra cash type of position and probably lived in a relatively secure household that provides for her more than adequately. She received a decent education in a decent household and a decent school district. Her parents were willing to support her and were able to help her to go to college. The college she is attending is not cheap. She's paying Out of State tuition to attend the college in Rhode Island. She has a better chance than peers of hers that have not been able to attend college for most of her life. Its truly sad that she is more offended by the "Welfare Queens" figuring their way around the systems to get more value out of their shopping experience at Walmart of all places (the company that has killed American family store businesses and extracts more value away from the host city than keeps within the town to be spread around over and over again instead of landing in the Walton's pocket for billions every year), than she is worried about the vile, psychopathic individuals that make up the Republican party and those that have bought the representatives to insulate their thievery. Think of all the corporations like Walmart who hire lobbyists and pad political campaigns to insulate their wealth. The company costs the American people a lot of money. Their refusal to pay workers a living wage, coupled with a mixture of not allowing workers a full 40hrs of pay to keep the workers for qualifying for full time working benefits OR if they do qualify for the benefits, they make the insurance premiums equal almost all of the worker's pay for the week. OR in some states, the employees minimum salary qualifies the worker for Medicaid or Medicare... so the taxpayers are picking up the costs of one of the wealthiest companies NOT paying for its workers. And because they are a big company, towns normally give them all kinds of tax give-aways because they are going to provide jobs (I believe Walmart is one of the biggest employers in America). And then there are all the corporate tax loopholes they have bought themselves from congress. And then there is the decimation of Main St with the take over of the Big Box store providing cheaper goods. And then their is the decimation of the American production line due to their buying of cheaper goods from foreign companies in China and other developing nations. AND they love to exploit women and children the most.... From those who are working in the cashier line to those in the developing countries who are producing clothes and toys etc with exploitative sweat shops. Walmart does nothing to help humanity. The Republicans, and now too often Democrats, have literally taken their 30 shillings to sell out the American people and the people of the world, in general. AND this Miss Little Walmart working, wannabe Ann Coulter, is worried about a couple of women figuring out how to get the most bang for their buck out of Walmart and from their meager Government assistance... I guess the millions stollen from the American people means nothing to her.
Her reading score went down in the 10th grade due to her inability to comprehend reading facts, figures, and statistics and apply them in an analytical and comprehensive manner in regards to the bigger picture.
Sorry, another Bird Walk, rant when I really just wanted to mention a cheaper way to get the games to play on the Xbox.... And I wish my tax payer money did more to pay for things like impoverished families, neighborhood improvement/ betterment projects, moving ourselves off of harmful carbon-based energy sources (kinda like we worked the Manhattan project or NASA getting man to the Moon), raising people's quality of life (like Medicare For All, living wages, less time for that "full time hours week", free education and tech vocation, etc), than paying for the wealthy to stay wealthier and steal from the American people (hello bail outs), wars, and drill baby drill policies and subsidies going to another billion dollar profit industry that is killing our future....
