(2,049 posts)very closely the example of the Army Math Research Center during the 60s at the U. of Wisconsin in Madison, WI. IIRC, the bombers thought the building was empty and had taken every precaution to avoid injuring anyone. Alas, there was a lone grad student in physics (or math?) working in the building at the time. He had absolutely no connection whatsoever to the U.S. military, other than being in the building. The bomb went off prematurely, before police could secure the building, and the grad student was killed.
The UW AMRC bombing is an incident where the bombers had zero intention of hurting anyone but, despite their best intentions, someone still got killed. Just one more casualty of the Vietnam War, I suppose, but an object lesson nonetheless in the potential true cost of violence as a tactic in any form.
