Just watched "One Bright Shining Moment" a documentary about George McGovern [View all]

and a quote of his stuck with me:

“The highest patriotism is not a blind acceptance of official policy, but a love of one's country deep enough to call her to a higher standard.”


This quote was actually part of a criticism of a fellow Democrat and then current President Johnson regarding the escalation of the Vietnam war.

I cannot recommend the film enough
