Think about the fact that you would not even be raising these questions if the Snowden story never happened. That is the good he has done. He certainly cannot dismantle the program himself. He himself can hardly "decide" the morality about the government having this kind of secret authority to listen in on YOUR private communications, that remains strictly for you to decide. But what he can and did do was bring it all out into the open for discussion, which you seem to be embracing. Certainly I believe that the State should have some authority to wiretap suspects who would do harm.. with enough evidence.
The danger I see is that there is virtually no oversight. Or that whatever there is could be highly partisan and automatic and the public would never know. If this is what happens under a Democratic administration, can you imagine what kind of reach a "I wish this was a dictatorship" Republican President would use? Every slightly left of center organization would be targeted. Perhaps everyone here contributing on DU would be monitored as high priority. Its a slippery slope.
