I was in NY when 9/11 happened, I had friends who worked right in the area that was attacked, I had afriend whose daughter, pregnant, was killed trying to escape the falling debris, expecting to have lunch with her that day.
No one here believes that they know everything about everyone'. What we KNOW is that if someone makes themselves too conspicuous, they now have access to immense amounts of data they can pull up and use against them. That is enough.
We also know that this is against the rights of the people under the 4th Amendment of the Constitution that every elected official swears to defend and protect.
And we know that most of those who support these policies are former Bush supporters, like King, Fleischer, Bush, Cheney. What a nightmare, to vindicate these war criminals by having Democrats continue policies we hoped to end.
And we know that most of this 'data' collection is being funded by US, and that money is going to the very Corporations that we on the 'left' CLAIM we recognize as a threat to this democracy.
Booz Allen, multi billion dollar Republican Corporation, friends of Bush, CEO Clapper walking through the revolving door into the position of Director of Intelligence, in a DEMOCRATIC administration.
You go right ahead and support all of this, hand over your rights if you wish, but you don't get to hand over everyone else's. No one can stop you from supporting whatever you want to support, but you won't stop those of us who have not changed our minds about what was so wrong with this country when Bush was president.
What happened in Boston was another, of many, many tragedies that should have been stopped IF all this data mining was really about terror. But it isn't, and the tragedy is that if they were using the proven methods of tracking terrorists, they WOULD have been watching THEM instead of all the rest of us.
