What would a successful prosecution have looked like? [View all]

Apparently they were supposed to convince the jury that Z wasn't afraid for his life. How the hell can one even do that? What would that look like?

That a witness heard him say: "Come here asshole, I'm not afraid of you! I don't think you will kill me!"

Is that really what they needed to prove?

If not that, then please provide an example of what a proper successful prosecution would have to do to get a conviction in a case such as this?
