(460 posts)Had GZ been charged with being stupid or overstepping whatever authority his neighborhood watch position gave him, the jury would have found him guilty in a few minutes. The jury was given the choice of 2nd degree murder or manslaughter. Those were the only choices they had, and they made the right call. If our laws are to mean anything, we must follow them. The prosecution presented what evidence it had, and the defense argued for acquittal. In our system, the defendant must be found guilty beyond reasonable doubt. And there was plenty of doubt here. Just read a few of the posts that have been made. It seems as if everyone has a different set of facts, and they all believe that they are the only ones with the truth. This jury did what they had sworn they would do. They listened to both sides, and made a decision based on what they heard, and what the law said. They should not be criticized for doing what they were supposed to do.
