8. Using Cheney and Williams is actually quite clever

What are the two groups in Maryland most standing in the way of passage? Conservatives, who probably oppose it by a wide margin, and African-Americans, who oppose it by a 12-point margin (53-41) and are close to 30 percent of Maryland's population.

These two figures take both groups head on. Cheney's got a lot of conservative cred, and Omar was a beloved (and openly gay) character on a show that brought a lot of attention to the lives of African-Americans in Maryland.

Well done, I say.
