Santorum Defends Comments on Obama and Education

Rick Santorum on Sunday tried to clarify his comment that President Obama subscribed to a “phony ideology,” saying he was referring not to the president’s faith but to his view of man’s relationship to the world.
“I wasn’t suggesting that the president’s not a Christian,” he said with a laugh on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
But he suggested that anyone who believes that the protection of natural resources is more important than satisfying man’s needs – and man, he said, could be a “good steward” of the Earth — was pursuing “a phony ideal.”
“The Earth is not the objective, man is the objective, and I think that a lot of radical environmentalists have it upside down,” Mr. Santorum said.
