In reply to the discussion: Court orders mother to hand over nursing infant to father on weekends [View all]Democrat 4 Ever
(3,941 posts)I honestly think the opportunity for the father to bond with his children at this time of their lives trumps anything. Breastfeeding is good, recommended, but it will never replace a lifetime commitment of a child knowing their father, trusting and loving their father during all stages of their lives. I don't think he should have to take a back seat to raising his children for any reason. The child will not starve to death and I do think the mother should attempt to provide milk for the weekends. If she can't, then yes, formula can supplement the feedings for two days. There is story after story of the father heading for the hills after the birth of his children and being a weekend father at best. We don't know all the facts of this particular case, we just have the mother's side, but it appears the father is wanting to be an integral part of their young lives. And I say good for him.
