(23,340 posts)He has not studiously avoided those problems. Unemployment, recession, health care, many other things.
He is, however, the President of the United States, of all Americans, and he has approached his job that way.
Most black leaders have appointed themselves as leaders, and do not acquire that status by doing so, as African-Americans are very independently minded people. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Cornel West, Tavis Smiley, all would like to be thought of that way, however they are not regarded that way by black people. The media anoints them such, because the media is lazy and wants to find a single source black person that can speak for all black people without the media doing the legwork required to find out what black people really think.
There is no single black leader. There hasn't been, ever. And that is a good thing.
