He said what he meant, and meant what he said. In a perfect world, all of it would have come to pass. But he wasn't Merlin, or Jesus, or God.

Unfortunately, entrenched beliefs, political systems and economies didn't allow for much change for another 60+ years. And here we are, still working on it, over 120 years later, with an entire segment of our society trying to drag women back to the caves, deny civil and Constitutional rights to other groups and, generally, attempting to regress our entire society back to the dark ages and ignorance.

Abraham Lincoln owes none of us an apology.
