I started seeing the same thing posted online in a few places so I started to look into it...and really, the most interesting reading was the piece from The Atlantic. Don't get me wrong, everyone loves re-reading speeches but the American Murder Mystery was put together very well and actually looked into the issue of trying to bring the poor up, and the challenges that everyone involved faces. I think some people will look at that and agree that they fell short of their goals (as many in the article related), and that they have to look back and re-evaluate methods and try and find out where things went off course. It's the few that say there is no problem, when obviously there is one, that don't help the matter at all.

People need assistance, they need a hand up, but if what you are doing to try and help them isn't actually helping them, or they are not receiving the full benefit of the assistance then it stands to reason that you should probably take stock of what you are doing, and look at what's working and why, and what's not working and why. There's a reason why it's called social SCIENCE.
